A Soldier's Story

About four years ago (36 years after returning from Vietnam), I started having very intense survivor’s guilt and depression for living a long and good life while so many people did not return. You may have experienced similar feelings, not caring about anything and just wanting to sit in a dark room and cry.

Well, one Sunday, I was flipping through the channels on the TV and started to listen to a church program only because their band sounded good. When the minister started his sermon, he talked about Jesus cleansing ten lepers and only one of them came back to thank him (see Luke, chapter 17, verse 11).

Then it hit me. Probably only one in ten returning veterans thanked God for bringing them back from the war. I immediately thanked Jesus for bringing me back from the war and, instantaneously, the guilt and depression were gone.

Try it. This can work for you.
